When did you stop dreaming of what you’d be when you grew up? When did the ideas that you could become anything start to fade away into a smaller reality?
Maybe you’re luckier than most and are still dreaming, still reaching for the stars, actually achieving those far-reaching goals…
I think for a lot of us, though, our dreams begin to get smaller and smaller the older we get.
At my son’s pre-K graduation this week, each child stood up and shared what they wanted to be when they grew up. They had beautiful aspirations, like doctors, engineers, princesses, paleontologists, policemen, and professional soccer players. I sadly started to wonder how long before the world gets a hold of these children and the dreams begin to dim? How many of these kids will actually achieve these dreams – or even the dreams they’ll have by the time they graduate high school?
So, maybe none of us will actually become princesses and few will play professional sports. Maybe the dreams the we had as children and teens were unrealistic or not fully informed, but perhaps there’s something in them to help us unlock our passion.
DREAM… IMAGINE… PRAY…
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” – Harriet Tubman
How many of us are living out our passion and purpose? How many are still reaching for the stars and believing we can live into our dreams. Or, do we still have some dreaming to do to recapture that vision for our lives?
How do you want to change the world? What dreams do you have for your life? Maybe you’re dreaming of growing your family, of starting a new career, of finding another chance at love, of finding healing and hope out of a dark chapter of your life.
Is it ever too late to dream of something different? Can we go back and dream again? Are we ever too old to start over and try something new?
DREAM… IMAGINE… PRAY…
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” C. S. Lewis
I recently discovered a station on Pandora called “Summer Hits of the 90s.” They’ve been playing so many favorites from my formative years. These songs instantly transport me back to moments in my teens and early 20s, those years when I still dreamed. I think it’s been my reminder to put my mind in a youthful state and allow dreaming.
Remember, no matter the choices we’ve made (or not made), the roads we’ve wandered, and the wrong turns we’ve taken, God is using all of our experiences to prepare us for whatever He has planned next.
Do you need to dream again? To find your purpose, your calling, your place in this world? Do you want to do more, to make more of an impact, to see how God can use you in bigger ways? Do you want a new start, a life that looks somehow different from your current chapter?
DREAM… IMAGINE… PRAY…
“There is no passion to be found playing small — in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” – Nelson Mandela
Find your “oldies” station and transport your mind to the time you last dreamed big dreams. Pray and ask God to help you find your dreams and passions. Let God fill you with new dreams and show you how He can take all your past and lead you into His big dreams for your life.
DREAM… IMAGINE… PRAY…
